Winter Portfolio

These ten photos are the images that I thought best exemplified the goals of my project. The photos that I chose centered around a specific object or objects that involve a lot of lines. These photos all captured a dizzying effect that I was looking for. Overall, I really enjoyed this project because it helped me see everyday things in a different perspective.

Winter Series Draft #5

For my last draft, I decided to take input that I received to try and include some color in my photos. Based off of this input, I chose to take photos of objects with a bright colors because they would stand out more while I was editing them. In addition to the color, I also continued to look for lines that would add more depth to the photo. Overall I have really enjoyed experimenting with this style of photography.

Winter Series Draft #4

For this draft of new photos, I decided to try and incorporate other photo techniques while I was taking photos such as using different lines and shadows. I found that having these different lines and shadows added a new dimension to my photos and it is something that I think made my photos look better. Over the course of this series, my focus shifted from buildings to a more narrow focus of an object with a background. 

Winter Series Draft #3

Since I've started this series, I have found different ways of following Idriss Khan's style without always taking photos of buildings. For my third draft, I decided to focus more on individual subjects because I think it looks cool to have one object to be center and out of focus with the background also out of focus and blurry; I think these aspects really go together nicely. For this draft, I also tried adding more layers than I had done before.

Winter Series Draft #2

This week I started taking photos of buildings such as my first photo and then came to realize I really liked the different overlays of text, signs and other objects. This led me to focus on more specific objects rather than buildings and I really liked the variety of this series. During this draft I also discovered a different way of overlaying the different photos.

Winter Series Draft #1

For my series this semester, I decided to create photos inspired by Idriss Khan. His photos are of architecture and they are taken in a way that makes them look blurry and makes the observer dizzy. While creating my photos, I chose different building and took multiple pictures of the building from different angles and then I edited and overlayed them on top of one another, in hopes of creating the same effect as Khan. The hardest part for me was editing the photos so they had layers but it wasn't entirely obvious.

Slo-Mo

This week's assignment was a focus on using slow shutter speed techniques through panning, motion blur and motion abstracts and light painting. Panning is achieved by following a moving object with the camera while keeping the camera still. Motion blur and abstracts are achieved by setting the camera to a slower shutter speed and moving the camera to make the subject look blurred. Light painting is achieved by using a light; usually a flash light and "painting" and image with it. I found that it took a lot of experimenting and patience to get the exact results that I wanted. Overall, I think that light painting was the most enjoyable and panning was the most difficult and most frustrating.
