Fall Series Draft #4

In this final draft, I really wanted to focus on going back to the basics of levitation rather than crafting scenarios out of each photo which is why a majority of my photos are more centered around the setting and the framing. Some of the photos in this draft show everyday actions, while others simply show people levitating. Overall, I think that I was able to finally find the recipe that worked for me when it came to creating my photographs.

Fall Series Draft #3

This week I chose to focus more on groups of people levitating. This was actually really hard as I had to worry about both finding people as well as getting them all to jump at the same time so I could get the photo perfectly timed. For this reason, I was not able to get as many photos produced as I would have liked to.

Fall Series Draft #2

For this draft, I decided to take photos outside of school. These photos are less focused on everyday activities and more of movements in nature. I kept the last photo because I thought it looked really cool. My goal this week was to try and experiment with different environments for my photos. I was able to get more photos because I used a different camera and was able to get more shots at a time, which really helped speed up my process. Similar to my first draft, I struggled a little with timing which is why some of the photos are blurry. 

Fall Series #1

For my fall series, I chose to take levitation photos based off of inspiration by Natsumi Hayashi. For these photos, I wanted to focus my photos in school so I could get familiar with the whole process of taking these photos. I chose to both photograph other people and myself levitating. The very first photo I took I struggled with because it came out pixelated and I didn't get the lighting right. As I took more photos, I began to become more comfortable with what I wanted to get out of each photo and that led to them having better quality. I generally wanted to exhibit everyday actions in school.

Portraits

This week's assignment was a focus on portraits. We looked at photographer Richard Avedon's photographs as our inspiration. When he photographed his models, he would give them prompts and take pictures based on the emotions he received. He often pretended to take photos of the models until they took off their "mask". When the models got ride of "mask" that is when he would be able to capture a photo in their most vulnerable state. We took our photos a similar way. I chose to photograph 3 models using 5 photos for each. The three Drew students I chose to photograph were: Adrienne, Casey and Maria. I told them to think about certain things and I was able to get their reactions and expressions from those prompts. All of the photos are in black and white and square shaped so that the main focus is on their facial expression.
